System Software (0-6) System 5.x

In 1984 Apple Computer unveiled their Macintosh. It included a new user interface that revolutionized the way people though about computer interaction. Originally referred to as simply "Macintosh System", the underlying OS was a single-tasking disk system for the Motorola 68K CPU. Significant changes were made in MacOS 7.x.

The Macintosh originally came bundled with a Guided Tour of Macintosh, MacWrite, MacPaint, and a Tour of MacPaint and MacWrite.

Release notes

System 4.2, Finder 6.0 (System Software 5.0) Starting with this release, Apple attempts to unify all pieces of the software product under one version numbering system. Version "5.0" is predominatly printed on the boxes and the disks. Yet for some reason Apple did not bump the System file version number - which is now shown in the About Finder dialog! Adds more color support, adds multitasking and application switching via MultiFinder.

System 4.3, Finder 6.0 (System Software 5.1) - minor update.
